RENEWABLES

Vertical Divider

Waikoloa Solar

Installation of the electrical scope for a 30MW AC Solar Installation and 120MWh containerized lithium-ion battery energy storage system. This scope included the DC string circuits, DC collector circuits, 12.47kV transformers, utility substation, utility switchyard, and interconnection to the Hawai’i Electric Light Company (HELCO) grid.  The instrumentation & control systems were extensive and included systems in the 69kV Substation, 69kV Switchyard, distributed battery energy storage systems, & distributed inverters.

Kuihelani Solar

Installation of the electrical scope for a 60MW AC Solar Installation and 240MWh containerized lithium-ion battery energy storage system. This scope included the DC string circuits, DC collector circuits, 12.47kV transformers, utility substation, utility switchyard, and interconnection to the Maui Electric Company (MECO) grid.

TRANSPORTATION

HDOT- Replace Tunnel Lighting

PPEC was contracted to replace the existing HID tunnel lighting system with new LED fixtures in the Pali tunnel, Wilson tunnel, Harano tunnel, Hospital Rock tunnel, & Middle Street Tunnels.  Additional supporting scope included upgrading the lighting control system, conduit and wire with a new modern energy efficient system.  Work also included careful coordination with State Highway personnel to schedule the highway closures for each tunnel location and with State of Hawaii emergency services to ensure that the proper contingencies were in place for system constancy.
Vertical Divider

C&C Honolulu- LED Streetlight

The scope of work includes the conversion of C&C’s HID Street light fixtures to LED equivalents and the installation of a networked outdoor lighting control system.  PPEC’s portion of the work included the North Shore, Central O’ahu, the Ewa plain, & Waianae coast on O’ahu which equated to approx. 20,000 fixtures.  Meticulous planning and coordination with the C&C personnel was required to procure the necessary road usage permits for the project.

HART TES Cable Installation

The HART rail project includes installation of (6) traction power substations as well as the installation, termination and testing of the DC power cabling from traction power substations to the rail. Each station required an average of 25 parallel DC runs of 750kcmil, 2kv cabling.  Installation of cable tray raceway for the DC cables was also a major scope of this work. Much of this work was located in major highways and required extensive planning for road usage and safety of the workers.

INDUSTRIAL

Covanta- BAMR H-Power Facility

This challenging project was for the construction of a new ash recovery facility at the Covanta Honolulu Resource Recovery Venture (CHRRV).  The scope of work included power, lighting, grounding, motor controls, fire alarm, and instrumentation in the new building.  The highly corrosive environment required extra care & extensive use of stainless-steel materials to ensure longevity in the installation.  Further, the work was performed on the site of an active power generation facility which mandated regimented outage requests and coordination.

Covanta- Excitation System Upgrade

This project included scope for the installation of a new excitation system and transformer at the Covanta H-Power facility. The scope of work included medium-voltage power, <600V power, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, and instrumentation in the new building.  The new excitation system included a high speed I/O feedback on system performance.

INSTITUTIONAL

APEX 2 Hawaii Radome

The project entailed the installation of one 13.5-meter antenna, a radome blower generator facility, and one primary generator/uninterruptible power supply building.  The project installed install underground cables in two trenches between Substation 573 and the PD location for electrical power and install 24-strand fiber cables in two trenches between Building 550 and the PD location.

UTILITY

Vertical Divider

Villa Rose Microgrid

This microgrid project allowed the customer to operate their agriculture facility completely “off-grid”, with no physical connection made to the local distribution utility.  The project consisted of several Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), which serve the facilities electric load.  The DERs consist of (2) Diesel Engine Generators, (1) Diesel storage tank with instrumentation devices, a Battery Energy Storage System, & interconnection to Solar PV.

SPIDERS- Phase 3 Microgrid

SPIDERS Phase 3 was an important federal project that provided cyber security to the power system at Camp Smith Oahu. Pacific Power provided the electrical, instrumentation, and communication/fiber installation for the project. The project provided the capability for Camp Smith to “island” its power from the utility grid. The project consisted of the installation of (4) 725Kw, 480v generators, substation construction, battery storage, connection to four base substations, reconfiguration of substations, new SEL control relays (qty 29), underground and overhead distribution and cyber secure fiberoptic communication system.

COMMERCIAL

Wheeler Bowling Alley

The state-of-the-art center Hanger Entertainment Center features bowling lanes, pool tables, a foosball table, video games, nine television screens, projector screens, a bar and dining section that seats up to 50, and an outdoor dining patio.  Set up with an aviation theme because of the base's history, the Hangar Entertainment Center's renovation was implemented with young Soldiers in mind.

ACCOMMODATIONS

P-911 BEQ

The project is located on Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe, Hawai’i and consists of a multi-story bachelor enlisted quarters (BEQ) building including 2+0 room configurations, laundry facilities, lounges, administrative offices, multipurpose recreation rooms, housekeeping areas, and public restrooms. The facility is being constructed with pile foundations, concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls, concrete floor and roof structure, and built-up roofing. The project also includes construction of a multi-level concrete framed parking structure with pile foundations for approximately 730 vehicles. This project also includes a new Air Conditioning (HVAC), Fire Protection, and Metering system, passenger/freight elevators for the BEQ, two passenger/freight elevators for the parking structure, and emergency electrical generators.
